KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — Let’s face it, YouTube videos keep us entertained no matter where we are, but we can’t say the same for Internet connection which undoubtedly will affect our viewing pleasure.
Worrying about bad connectivity or insane mobile data charges while watching YouTube videos on your mobile device will now be a thing of the past thanks to the popular site’s new offline feature.
YouTube recently launched the offline feature in Malaysia as part of a larger initiative to make the video sharing platform easier to enjoy on mobile devices.
Simply put, this new feature will allow users to download a movie at home using WiFi and they will be able watch it offline on a mobile device during the long commute to work — without having to stream it again.
Once taken offline, the videos can be viewed without an Internet connection for 48 hours. Users will just need to sign in, pick the video they want to watch later, and tap the offline icon to download it.
“We want to make sure we are making YouTube as enjoyable as possible for our growing base of mobile users in Malaysia. By launching a new offline feature for YouTube, we hope to help people move past the challenges of data connection, speed and cost to enjoy a smooth, buffer-free version of YouTube,” said YouTube vice president of Engineering John Harding.
And if you’re worried that the feature is only available for select videos, rest assured that most of the popular YouTube content within Malaysia is ready for offline viewing.
“We are delighted to launch this new offline experience on YouTube with some of the top Malaysian players in entertainment. By making these popular videos available for temporary offline viewing, our partners will help fans connect more easily with their favourite content, while also helping bring more viewers to their videos.

This is part of YouTube’s ongoing release of its ad-supported offline feature on Android and iOS, which has also been launched in several countries worldwide including Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
