LISBON, March 21 — Cristiano Ronaldo won Portugal’s player of the year award yesterday in a ceremony at Estoril.
Ronaldo first accepted an award on behalf of the Euro 2016-winning national team, and coach Fernando Santos received an award for coach of the year.
Speaking to the audience Ronaldo reminded them that many, including some of them, had not believed the national team could win the Euro tournament. He paid tribute to the Mister, Santos, for convincing the players they could achieve it.
Fittingly it was Santos who presented Ronaldo with the player of the year award. — Reuters
