The news follows a long search for a film helmer, following Antoine Fuqua’s withdrawal from the project due to scheduling conflicts at the beginning of this year, and whispers that Hell or High Water director David MacKenzie and Patriots Day director Peter Berg were also at one point circling the project (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The movie — which has seen previous versions made in 1932 and 1983, the latter of which was directed by Brian De Palma and starred Al Pacino — revolves around the story of a Cuban immigrant turned west coast gangster who rises to the top of the Miami underworld.

Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is still attached to star as the key gangster Tony Montana, with Jon Herman penning the most recent rewrite of the remake. Dylan Clark will produce via his Dylan Clark Productions, along with Martin Bregman, who produced the 1983 Scarface film.

The fresh Scarface film is slated for release on August 10, 2018. — AFP-Relaxnews
