KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — Two friends were sentenced to eight years jail and two strokes of caning by the Sessions Court today, for robbing a tablet (personal computer) and RM100 from an electrician and fracturing his nose.
Ampang Sessions Court Judge, Syafeera Mohd Said sentenced technician Muhammad Hairie Mohd Noorhisham and food catering worker Muhammad Asif Azni, both 22, after they pleaded guilty to the two charges.
She sentenced them to eight years jail and two strokes for robbing and three years jail for causing grievous hurt to the victim. The sentences were to run concurrently from the date of their arrest on February 25, 2016.
Muhammad Hairie and Muhammad Asif were charged with robbing a tablet and RM100 belonging to Chay Wei Xiang, 22, near a field in Taman Ampang Mewah, at 10.30pm on February 25, 2016, under Section 395 of Penal the Code which carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and caning.
Both the accused were also charged with causing grievous hurt to the victim under Section 325 of the Penal Code which provides for jail sentence of up to seven years and fine.
The court heard that both the accused approached the victim, who was sitting near the field and snatched a bag from him and punched him in the face before fleeing.
They were caught by a team of policemen near the scene of the crime just one hour later.
Earlier, both the accused, who were unrepresented, apologised to the victims and their families and appealed for leniency on the grounds that they were sorry and had repented.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Goh Ai Rene called for a suitable sentence since the offences were serious and had threatened the safety of the victim. — Bernama
