KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — Authorities yesterday exhumed the body of Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Ghaddafi, who lost both legs and died from alleged abuse by a tahfiz school assistant warden, for further investigations.
According to the Berita Harian newspaper, the 11-year-old's grave at the Muslim burial ground in Felda Bukit Aping, Bukit Tinggi was unearthed in the presence of the family, court officials, police, and medical personnel.
“It's true Thaqif's grave was dug open yesterday and witnessed by family members, for samples of the deceased's legs to be taken for further testing,” Dzuraidah Ahmad, the boy's aunt, was quoted as saying.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Supt Ashmon Bajah confirmed the exhumation.
Thaqif was allegedly beaten on March 24, but was only taken to a hospital in Johor Baru on April 19, where he was found to have massive bacterial infection in all his limbs and kidney failure.
He then had both legs amputated below the knee and had been scheduled for surgery to amputate his right forearm, but died on April 26 before it could take place.
Police initially remanded the assistant warden from the religious school, but later released him on bail.
The case is classified as murder.
