The motion, passed unanimously by the wing’s over 600 members, was reminiscent of a similar resolution made months ago by the top leadership of the DAP to cut all ties with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang but remain in PR.

According to former wing committee member Mokhtar Senik who proposed today’s motion, the DAP has consistently opposed Kelantan PAS’s attempt to implement the controversial Islamic law in the state, and has continued to criticise Abdul Hadi.

“The muktamar of PAS Ulama wing suggests to the Syura Council and central working committee that the relationship with DAP must be cancelled and PAS stays in PR,” Mokhtar read the proposed motion in the wing’s muktamar, or annual congress.

The motion was seconded by member Norazli Musa, and subsequently unanimously supported by the 600-strong Ulama members in the hall who cried “takbir”.

Kelantan delegate Hasan Mahmud had asked for an amendment to the motion, changing it to ask the Syura Council to reconsider the tahaluf siyasi — which refers to PAS’ working arrangement with its allies in PR, but his suggestion was rejected.

The motion is expected to be tabled in the party’s main muktamar which starts tomorrow in Kuala Selangor.

Earlier today, the wing had accused its ally DAP of meddling with the party's internal polls this week, pointing to the latter's decision to reconsider its position in PR based on PAS' muktamar this year.

The ulama wing’s acting chief Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamad said DAP's purported interference is a “provocative” move, which he said can nullify the tahaluf siyasi, or political consensus, between PAS and its PR allies.

Today’s emergency motion came despite PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali’s assurance earlier this week that the Islamist party will not decide to break away from PR in this muktamar.
