Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said five of the suspects were arrested in the vicinity of Pelangi Indah, while the other two, who are the prime suspects, were detained while they were in an express at Kilometre 142.4 of the North-South Expressway on their way to Kuala Lumpur.

Police also seized several items, believed to belong to the victims, from the two suspects, he added.

The seven suspects, age between 18 and 20, were detained within eight hours of the incident.

Another suspect, in his 20s, was detained at 3am today at Taman Puteri Wangsa, said Wan Ahmad Najmuddin in a statement today.

He said preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the motive of the murder was forbidden love.

In the incident yesterday, a 56-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter were found dead with multiple slash and wounds in a room in their house.

A three-year-old girl, who is the woman’s grand-daughter and was inside the house, was not hurt.

Police have obtained an order to remand the suspects for five days until Monday under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for investigation.

The order was issued by Johor Baru Lower Court assistant registrar Norhidayah Manaf. — Bernama
