SEREMBAN, Sept 3 — A 39-year-old drug trafficker who was being escorted by two policemen in a patrol car from the Nilai police station to Simpang Renggam, Johor, escaped from custody with the help of his gang members.

The incident unfolded on Sunday morning at the Setul rest area of the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (Lekas).

The detainee — popularly known as “Taliban” or “Ah Chin” — was arrested on July 4 in Taman Sri Pulai for alleged drug smuggling activities.

Along the way, the detainee said he had a stomach ache and needed to go to the toilet.

“When the police stopped at the R&R and were about to take him to the toilet, a red Proton Satria rammed into the patrol car from behind.

“At that point, the detainee — who was on foot — struggled free and ran into the waiting escape car,” said a source.

The car sped away and was seen heading towards Seremban. The two policemen gave chase, but the suspects escaped.

“Police have now launched a manhunt for the suspect. The car used in the daring escape had false registration plates,” said the source.
