KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 — The Heat Malaysia today announced that it is ceasing operations just a year since it went fully online.
In an announcement on its website, the editorial staff said they were informed that the move was a “business decision”.
“We sought to highlight the wrongs, and be the voice of those who are unable to speak for themselves.
“That voice is no more.
“The Heat Malaysia is not the first, nor will it be the last to lose that voice,” read the announcement.
It did not disclose additional details regarding compensation or resultant staff movement.
The news outlet began life as a printed weekly in 2013, and was suspended by authorities under the Printing Presses and Publications Act later in the year.
The suspension was lifted the next year, but the outlet moved to a completely digital operation in 2015.
The Heat Malaysia will join The Malaysian Insider news portal and the Bloomberg TV Malaysia channel as media outlets that discontinued their businesses this year.
