The winning team of Shalin Zulkifli, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Sin Li Jane, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi and Natasha Roslan took the gold medal at the 2017 World Championship in Las Vegas, United States, on Sunday.

Malaysia recaptured the women’s team gold it last won in Monterrey, Mexico in 2007 after defeating arch-rival Singapore 214-209, 188-177 in the final.

Afifah, 26, said the Vegas triumph in an endorsement of their global standard, explained that their steely determination stemmed from the the national women keglers are not just of SEA Games level.

“The feeling is amazing, unbelievable! We really want to win this as we want to prove to the nation that we are world class too, not just regional champions at SEA Games.

“We were so determined to prove that and we made it! The historic win is for our beloved Malaysia, families and bowling fans,” she said after the final.

The team had successfully defended its crown by winning the gold medal in bowling at this year’s SEA Games.

Malaysian bowling squad took a medal haul of 7-4-3 (G-S-B) to top the sport at the KL Games.

Afifah added the team will definitely celebrate the win but its current task is not over yet.

“We have to finish our Masters later (yesterday). Hopefully, Malaysia will get another medal,” said Afifah.

The Vegas tournament will conclude with the Masters event later on Monday. Shalin, Li Jane and Siti Safiyah along with Ahmad Muaz Fishol, are the qualifiers for the individual event.

In the meantime, Afifah is relishing a family celebration.

“Personally for me, I will share the good news with my family with a nice dinner to celebrate our world championship win, as my family is my biggest supporter. They trusted me and the team,” added Afifah.
