KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — Datuk Lee Chong Wei suffered a shock defeat at the hands of HS Prannoy in the second round of the Indonesian Open held at Jakarta Convention Centre today.
Top national singles player Chong Wei exited the tournament after losing 10-21, 18-21 to Indian player Prannoy in just 40 minutes.
Chong Wei is ranked third while Prannoy is ranked 25th in the world.
The defeat prevented Chong Wei from winning his seventh Indonesian Open title.
Chong Wei won the Indonesian Open title six times (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013,2016). The feat equalled the record of Taufik Hidayat and Ardy Wiranata of Indonesia.
The 34 year-old Malaysian is also the first non-Indonesian player with the most Indonesian Open titles. — Bernama
