LOS ANGELES, Nov 29 — Evan Rachel Wood has revealed that she’s been raped twice.
The Westworld star had told Rolling Stone in an interview previously that she had suffered “physical, psychological (and) sexual” abuse in the past but didn’t elaborate.
On November 9, she wrote the reporter a letter expanding on that revelation, which was partially quoted in the interview.
Yesterday, she shared the letter on Twitter, where she wrote in part: “Yes. I have been raped. By a significant other while we were together. And on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar.”
Wood added that she hadn’t initially wanted to talk about these episodes before because she didn’t want to make it a “sob story” about herself.
The 29-year-old actress also said that it took years to accept that getting raped wasn’t her fault, and now that she knows it wasn’t, she stressed that it’s not OK to “stay silent.”
“I will not be ashamed. I will also not project some false idea of being completely over it because ‘I am so strong,” she continued.
“I don’t believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer. I certainly can’t. Not given the state our world is in with its blatant bigotry and sexism.”
