LOS ANGELES, June 20 — Lorde has been forced to apologise after comparing her friendship with bestie Taylor Swift to an “autoimmune disease”.
The comment by the Royals singer appeared in an interview with The Guardian on Saturday.
Lorde had been attempting to describe what it’s like to have a close friendship with someone as famous as Swift.
Lorde was quoted as saying: “It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do.
“There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”
Initially, it just came across as a quirky comment — until a fan mentioned that another Swift bestie Selena Gomez who suffers from lupus might be offended by the comparison.
This prompted Lorde to apologise on Twitter, writing: “Didn’t mention Taylor, but regardless, I f***** up & that was really insensitive. I’m sorry.”
