LOS ANGELES, May 20 — US TV network The CW has added four new shows to its upcoming season schedule, including a reboot of the legendary 1980s soap opera Dynasty, and a new superhero with the power to harness and control electricity.
The CW — a US TV network aimed at young adults — will be adding a new character to its superhero lineup in 2018. After retiring from superhero crime-fighting, Jefferson Pierce, aka Black Lightning, puts his electrical superpowers to use once again when his daughter is in danger.
The show is produced by Greg Berlanti, the network's specialist in the genre, already behind hit shows Flash, Supergirl, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. And CW will have even more riding on these four series when its crossover lands this fall.
In a different style, the Gossip Girl creators will be back at work on a modern-day reboot of Dynasty, following the trials and tribulations of the Carringtons, a wealthy family who made it big in oil. The soap sees Fallon discover that the upcoming family reunion in Atlanta isn't being held to announce her promotion to COO of her father's global energy empire, but to present the family with its future stepmother, Cristal, who is almost the same age as Fallon. Grant Show, previously seen in the 1990s show Melrose Place, will star as the show's patriarch, Blake Carrington, in the reboot.
Other new shows coming to The CW include Valor, following an elite unit of US Army helicopter pilots on a top secret mission, and Life Sentence, about a young woman with terminal cancer who discovers that her family has been hiding all kinds of things from her over the last 10 years.
The new arrivals will join The CW's returning shows, such as Supergirl, Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supernatural, Riverdale, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, The 100, The Originals and iZombie. However, the network will not be renewing Reign or previous new starters No Tomorrow and Frequency. — AFP-Relaxnews
