LOS ANGELES, Nov 10 — Gaten Matarazzo’s character Dustin in Stranger Things may be many things, but it’s safe to say fashion icon isn’t one of them — otherwise, he wouldn’t have asked Steve for hair advice, right?
Well, all that has changed as fashion sites are reporting that fans crashed the Science Museum of Minnesota’s website in search of the purple Brontosaurus hoodie worn by Dustin in the first episode of season two.
The garment seen in the show is an actual vintage piece that was usually sold in the mid-80s as part of a travelling exhibit.
After being inundated with requests, the museum quickly cashed in and brought back the classic hoodie.
According to Highsnobiety, they shifted 80,000 hoodies in a single day online, temporarily crashing the museum’s website.
At US$36.95 (RM155) each, that’s an estimated total of US$3 million. Not bad for a day’s takings.
Crowds also formed at the museum’s physical store with lines going out the door to get one in person.
A check at time of writing shows the hoodies back in stock. Hurry, they won’t be there for long — and yes, they deliver to Malaysia.
