NEW YORK, Sept 22 — In advance of new album You Want It Darker, Leonard Cohen has released the title track.

Choral swells and a rolling bassline set the foundation for Cohen’s spoken verses, cushioned by gentle organ swells, in a treatment that runs close to 5 minutes in length.

Montreal group Cantor Gideon Zelermyer and the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue Choir were recruited for the track, which Cohen's publicist calls “an unflinching exploration of the religious mind”.

Nine-track album You Want It Darker is to be released October 21, 2016.

It will be the 14th studio album from Canadian-born Cohen, who reached 82 years of age on September 21, when the title track was released as a single.

His career as a singer and songwriter was preceded and has overlapped with his work as a published poet and novelist. — AFP-Relaxnews
