HONG KONG, Nov 29 — It’s appears that mum’s the word — for now at least.
Rumours started to swirl over the weekend that Shu Qi and Stephen Fung are expecting their first child together, after Taiwan TV personality Matilda Tao was seen placing her hand on the actress’ stomach at Saturday’s Golden Horse Awards.
Oriental Daily cornered Shu Qi yesterday during her first public appearance in Hong Kong following her marriage to long-time love Fung in September.
The gossip magazine reported that the actress looked “uncomfortable” when asked to confirm the pregnancy talk.
The 40-year-old actress didn’t exactly shoot down the rumours, but begged off answering the question by citing Chinese superstition.
“I know everyone is very worried about me and want me to have a baby soon. However, I want to let things flow naturally.
“Everyone keeps asking if I’m pregnant but I think the Chinese always say it’s not good to reveal your pregnancy until after the third month,” she was quoted as saying.
Adding further fuel to the fire, she added that she felt uncomfortable about “lying,” saying, “Lying is bad — please, to everyone who is curious, please stop asking me. Thank you.”
Shu Qi has spoken about her desire to start a family in recent interviews, admitting that if she does fall pregnant, she will take time off to enjoy motherhood.
