LOS ANGELES, Sept 23 — Mike Judge’s sci-fi satire Idiocracy is returning to US theatres on October 4, 2016, with over 30 venues lined up to show it and a live Q&A booked for the Santa Monica showing.
The 2006 comedy starred Luke Wilson as otherwise unremarkable soldier Joe and Maya Rudolph as female escort Rita.
The unlikely couple are picked by the US Army for an experimental suspended animation program that ends up lasting 500 years.
They awake to a ravaged post-apocalyptic landscape, a country where IQs have plummeted to such an extent that Joe is hailed as a genius-level problem solver and soon becomes a high-ranking government official.
Prior to Idiocracy, Mike Judge was already known for Office Space, Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill; more recently, Silicon Valley has been critically acclaimed with numerous award nominations.
Luke Wilson has starred in The Royal Tenenbaums, Legally Blonde, Old School, and Charlie’s Angels, while Maya Rudolph has hits Bridesmaids and Big Hero 6 on her resumé.
Judge and Rudolph will attend the Santa Monica screening of Idiocracy, whose Q&A will be taking questions from Twitter hashtag #IdiocracyToday and broadcast on Facebook Live. — AFP-Relaxnews
