LOS ANGELES, Nov 10 — Four years after Out of the Furnace, the former Batman star is back with director Scott Cooper in a Western coming to US theatres in December.
In Hostiles, Christian Bale plays Joseph J. Blocker, an American Army captain who is forced to escort a former enemy — a dying Cheyenne war chief — back to his tribal homelands. On the way, they encounter Rosalie Quaid, a distraught widow whose family was killed by Comanche Indians.
They have to stick together to survive their dangerous journey, which takes them from Fort Berringer, a remote Army outpost in New Mexico, to the prairies of Montana, facing the menace of nature’s hostilities and Comanche attacks.
Wes Studi (Avatar), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Jesse Plemons (American Made), Ben Foster (Inferno) and Timothée Chalamet — Hollywood’s latest breakout star, seen in Call Me by Your Name — are also on the cast of this Western directed by Scott Cooper. The filmmaker has previously directed Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace — also starring Christian Bale — and 2015 movie Black Mass starring Johnny Depp.
After screening at film festivals in Telluride and Toronto in September, Hostiles is among the movies tipped for nomination at the 90th Academy Awards. The film goes on limited release December 22 in Los Angeles and New York before going on general release in US theatres January 19. — AFP-Relaxnews
