Waze rates Melaka, Larut and Matang among top best Asia Pacific cities for driving

The Waze driver satisfaction index ranked Malaysia in 21st place on its overall global index. — AFP picKUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 ― Malaysia’s Central Melaka as well as Larut and Matang in Perak are among the top five most satisfying places to drive in the Asia Pacific region, according to a recent study by global traffic navigation app Waze.

The Waze driver satisfaction index, now into its third year of release, ranked Malaysia in 21st place on its overall global index where the Netherlands, France and the United States took the top three spots, while the Philippines, Dominican Republic and El Salvador were the worst three performers.

In the Asia Pacific region, Malaysia ranked second, just behind Australia which had three of its cities ― Perth, Melbourne and Sydney ― sweeping the top three spots, but ahead of Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines.

The Waze driver satisfaction index analyses the driving experience of millions of monthly active Waze users in 39 countries and 217 metros to create a numeric score, from most satisfying (10) to most miserable (1).

Nationally, the districts of Central Melaka and Larut and Matang earned the most satisfying score among drivers, followed by Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Baru and Johor Baru.

Kuala Muda, Kuching, Kinta and Kuala Lumpur were also in the top 10 ranking.

The index measures six attributes: traffic, safety, road conditions, socio-economics, driver services and “wazeyness” to look at the overall driver experience in towns and cities worldwide.

Waze said it has more than 90 million monthly active users globally in more than 185 countries, but chose to focus on countries and metros with more than 40,000+ monthly active users to ensure data accuracy and fair market comparisons.
