KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 ― A delegate from Umno's women wing wants Putrajaya to allocate 30 per cent of government contracts on food products to them.
Speaking during the wing's annual general assembly here, Pasir Putih Wanita chief Zurina Ripin said the contracts will help boost entrepreneurship among Malay women.
She also said there is no reason the government cannot fulfill her request as Umno was in power.
“We want 30 per cent of government contracts. There are plenty of ministries so what is wrong if we get 30 per cent of the food (supply or manufacturing) contracts,” she said while debating the wing's economic motion.
The 30 per cent demand for contracts was among the points raised in this year's motion.
“Is it difficult to give the 30 per cent? We are in power. Just give it to the (Malay) women entrepreneurs out there,” she added.
Zurina said Putrajaya must seriously consider the proposal if it is sincere in its push for gender equality.
The motion was unanimously passed.
