Datuk Othman Abdul, in tabling the motion to debate Najib’s policy speech, said God only put into power those whom he favoured.

“Allah gives power to those He favours,” Othman said.

“And Datuk Seri Najib Razak was given power legitimately so why are there those envious of him? Why are they making all sort of allegations against him?” he added.

Othman, representing Kedah, claimed the party’s enemies have embarked on a psychological war to incite public hatred against Umno.

Pointing to Bersih 2.0, he claimed the group through foreign help was trying to overthrow a legitimately elected government.

The Umno leader also thanked Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos for leading a movement to counter the polls reform group, congratulating him for “defending the party’s dignity”.

“I’d like thank Datuk Jamal. Congratulations. It’s not that we want them to fight but this is about protecting the dignity of our race.

“We do not want foreign meddling,” he said.

Othman said party members have a duty to protect their president by deflecting the lies.

“We are required by Islam to use our minds to think. If there are allegations you have to think, do research (to verify).

“We must use our faculties to deflect the allegations,” he said.

Najib, when opening the Umno assembly today, said the party’s enemies are working hard to discredit his leadership in a bid to drive the Malays away from the government.

He said party members should be mindful of such allegations and said without Umno, the Malays risk losing power to foreign elements.
