PETALING JAYA, May 20 — PKR women demanded today the resignation of Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor whom they condemned for linking sexual harassment to the way women dressed.
In a staged demonstration at the end of the party wing’s congress here, more than 50 delegates held up placards directed at the Umno and Barisan Nasional coalition secretary-general who was recently reported to have advised women to dress shabbily to avoid being sexually harassed.
“This is what we call a shabby minister,” PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said in closing the meet.
Zuraida also challenged the Umno women’s wing to “stand up” to Tengku Adnan, popularly known as Ku Nan.
“Don’t they feel embarrassed?” she asked.
Led by Zuraida, the PKR delegates then chanted “Reject Ku Nan” and “Ku Nan resign” while holding placards.
Chair of electoral reform group Bersih 2.0 Maria Chin Abdullah who was a guest at the congress also criticised Ku Nan during her speech earlier today, saying his remarks showed a lack of understanding as to what gender equality and respecting women means.
