The seat formerly called Seri Andalas previously had a more balanced composition, but was now a distinctly Malay constituency when it had once been 54 per cent non-Malay, he said.

“Now it is 75 per cent, possibly 78 per cent of voters there who are Malay.

“Due to this, PKR will field a Malay candidate in the constituency,” he said after attending an aid distribution event at the state secretariat building this afternoon.

Xavier first won the seat in the 2008 general election and successfully defended it in 2013 with a 15,000-vote majority.

He declined to say where he will contest now that he will not defend his seat, only insisting that the constituency belonged to his party.

When pressed, he said it was the party leadership’s prerogative to find a spot for him.

It was previously rumoured that Xavier would be moved for the 14th general election, with suggestions that Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei would be transferred to Sungai Kandis from Kota Kemuning.

The Kota Kemuning seat, previously Sri Muda, was also renamed in the redelineation.
