KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 ― A pedestrian bridge under construction linking the up-and-coming KL Eco City to the Gardens shopping mall at Mid Valley here collapsed about 3.30pm.
According to Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani, five people are injured, three critically.
Rescue personnel from the Pantai, Hang Tuah and Seputeh fire stations have been despatched to the scene.
In a preliminary report, Shamsol said three victims have been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.
Work is ongoing to rescue two more victims trapped under the rubble of the collapsed bridge.
“A full report will entail soon,” he said.
Malay Mail Online has also contacted the developer of KL Eco City, SP Setia Berhad, for comment as well as the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia and is expecting a statement from each soon.
On its website, KL Eco City is described as a “world class city-within-a city” on 25-acres of prime land and is a mixed development of commercial, retail space and luxury residential property.
