In the statement issued today, it said the application by P. Thevasegamani in November 2014 to obtain Malaysian citizenship for his daughter has been submitted to the Home Ministry to “consider and decide”.

“Any decision will be made known to the applicant through post,” it said.

Thevasegamani had earlier told Malay Mail that his 13-year-old daughter could not attend secondary school because of invalid documents.

In order to attend school and because the girl was conceived out of wedlock, he said the Selangor education department and NRD had asked him to obtain an Indonesian passport for his daughter.

The girl’s estranged mother is an Indonesian and Thevasegamani cannot process the passport for his daughter without the mother’s details.
