KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 ― Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has urged wing members today to no longer retain any sympathy for their former leaders who are now in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), as they are now political enemies.
Listing down Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir in particular, Khairy linked it to Malay culture where some remain respectful and grateful even to those who now attack Umno on a daily basis.
“But remember, those who were once our leaders and friends, are now attacking us in plain sight. In the political world, we are at war with Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Mukhriz,” Khairy said during his speech at the Umno Youth wing assembly here.
“In this hallowed hall, I implore the Umno Youth members, that now is not the time for loyalty and undivided love. We cannot have an iota of sympathy for those whom were once with us, but now turned on us.”
PPBM is led by former prime minister and Umno president Dr Mahathir as chairman, former deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president Muhyiddin as president.
Khairy also mocked Dr Mahathir for his trademark quote “Melayu mudah lupa” (Malays are forgetful), saying the former Umno president is the one who has turned back on his principles.
He then recited a poem in mockery of Dr Mahathir, saying that Umno Youth members remember his hypocrisy, dictatorship, misappropriations, and insult, after showing several videos of Dr Mahathir supposedly reversing his decisions.
“We will always remember your contribution, Tun. However your betrayal and desertion, we shall fight it till the end,” Khairy said, referring to Dr Mahathir.
Sounding the war horn for the next general elections, Khairy said the threat posed by PPBM to Umno should not be underestimated.
"Like it or not, do not underestimate PPBM targeting our loyal voters and our forts," he said.
"This party will not contest Lembah Pantai, Kuantan or Seremban ― they will contest Muar, Langkawi or Rembau ― which are Umno fixed deposits.”
He also claimed that there have been orders from PPBM leaders for some Umno members to discuss to only switch parties to PPBM when campaign period starts in the next elections.
Khairy warned that this might be the last Umno general assembly before the next elections, and as such urged members to put aside party position ambitions and instead focus on helping the party and Barisan Nasional retain their mandate.
The next general election is due before May 2018.
