PAGOH, Feb 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak urged voters especially the Malays to support Umno as it is a party that is strong on its own, instead of relying on parties that depended on other parties.
“We should not be relying on parties that depend on others. We have to place our trust in a real party, which is Umno.
“So long as there is Umno, the interests of the Malays and the other communities will be safeguarded, and our country will continue to move forward,” he said when addressing the people of Pagoh at the Maokil Felda scheme here.
Najib, who is also Umno president, said while party leaders are important but they needed grassroots support to help bring about changes in the country.
“Umno’s struggle as a party is far greater than the leaders contribution because it is seen as a sacred party and not just another party.
“It is a political institution so this is what we have to keep, not our leaders but the party,” he said.
Najib also reminded the Felda community on the past struggles in the development of the land.
“Felda cannot be separated from Tun Razak (the late former prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein) because of his vision to provide land to poor people.
“It was basically good land for good people,” he said, adding that Felda schemes nationwide will continue to grow and prosper under the ruling coalition.
Present at the event was the prime minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin his spouse Datin Seri Rosni Mansor and Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
