KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 — Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai today reminded Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun that dwindling minority support is the responsibility of the entire Barisan Nasional (BN) and not just the component parties.
The MCA president pointed out that BN components all worked under the coalition’s umbrella and that singling out member parties over the loss of support was non-constructive.
“Regardless of which component party loses a seat, it is a loss for BN and is not the (sole) problem of (the component party). This is a BN problem,” he was quoted as saying by the Malaysiakini news portal.
“We cannot view the thing separately, you can’t say this is a MCA, Gerakan or MIC problem. This is a BN problem… BN must be introspective and not to blame and provoke each other.”
Yesterday, the Umno Youth vice chief that is tipped to take over as the head of the movement suggested reviewing the current BN consensus, claiming that Umno’s allies in the coalition were not doing their part in winning support.
He identified the Chinese community, in particular, as unappreciative of BN’s aid.
