A child swims in the flood waters in Temerloh, December 7, 2013. — Reuters pic A child swims in the flood waters in Temerloh, December 7, 2013. — Reuters pic JOHOR BARU, Dec 7 — Flood victims at 21 relief centres in Johor numbered 1,538 from 403 families this evening compared to 1,633 from 426 families in the morning.

According to the state police contingent headquarters’ operations room, 582 flood victims from 145 families were still at nine relief centres in Segamat as at 4pm today, while another 418 from 118 families were at five relief centres in Batu Pahat.

It said 413 victims (110 families) were at three relief centres in Pontian, 97 (24 families) at two in Kota Tinggi, 20 (four families) at one in Kluang and eight (two families) at one centre in Ledang.

Clear skies since this morning allowed the Kampung Nong Chik relief centre in Johor Baharu, which housed 65 flood victims, and the Kampung Baru Sengkang relief centre in Kulaijaya with 54 victims earlier, to be closed.

In Segamat, areas still affected by floods are Kampung Sanglang, Kampung Paya Dalam, Kampung Awat, Kampung Pogoh 2, Kampung Batu Badak, Kampung Tandong and Kampung Spang Loi.

In Batu Pahat, the affected areas are Koris, Kampung Parit Haji Kamisan, Sungai Suloh, Parit Lapis and Kampung Linau Kechil.

In Kota Tinggi, the areas are Kampung Mawai Baru and Kampung Perpat, Pontian (Parit Stan and Tampuk Laut), Ledang (Kampung Kundang Ulu) and Kluang (Kampung Melayu Batu 4, near Paloh). — Bernama
