KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 — For his Chinese New Year greeting video this year, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin decided to play actor again.
This time around, the Umno Youth chief is accompanied by his son Jibreil Ali, as they play a father-and-son duo learning to cook a Chinese dish.
Khairy said the two-minute video was shot in his constituency in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, along with a Chinese restaurant owner in the town.
“Through this experience, I understand that a fish dish has a lot of their own meanings, including during a feast. Among others, it symbolises abundance of prosperity,” Khairy said in a post on his Facebook page.
“I thank Aunty Yin Fah, the owner of the Mui fong restaurant in Rembau, and her husband, Uncle Leong, for being willing to teach me and Jibreil how to prepare this special dish.”
In the video, Khairy is shown having bought a fish before entering the restaurant's kitchen to learn how to cook steamed fish.
Khairy and Jibreil, 11, both wore red, and they were also shown joining a group of locals eating an array of Chinese dishes at the restaurant after Khairy served up the fish from the kitchen.
“May the prosperity that we have experienced in Malaysia to date be maintained,” he narrated in the video.
