He was responding to racial profiling allegations against Terengganu police chief Datuk Aidi Ismail who reportedly said the state was free of gangsterism because 97 per cent of the people were Malays and their culture was an “advantage and can prevent crimes related to gangsterism”.

“I do not know the actual comment he told the press, but knowing him, I do not believe he meant it as a racial remark.

“It just so happens Terengganu’s majority is 97 per cent Malay. I am not defending him, but I do not think he has that kind of intention.

“At the moment, gangsterism in the state is under control,” Mohamad Fuzi told reporters at the police Special Action Forces training centre in Cheras.

He added that he was monitoring the progress of operations nationwide closely and emphasised that he “meant business” in declaring war against illegal activities, including gambling and gangsterism.

“I am monitoring the entire country and I will not hesitate to take action against any senior officer, junior officers, state police chiefs, district police chiefs and any that might be protecting such activities.

“I have repeated this many times. They also do not take me lightly. It is time for me to take action against my officers. If they cross the line, they will face the music.

“I mean business, and I will take action against those protecting illegal gambling, syndicated crimes, gangsterism and so forth,” he said.
