The Inspector-General of Police declined to identify any of the luminaries involved in such activities, but confirmed that those under investigation included people using their influence to help such syndicates.

“I cannot expose who they are for fear that this may affect the investigation. However, there are those among them with the titles of Datuk, Datuk Seri and Tan Sri who are being sought,” he told the Astro Awani news portal.

The IGP also declined to identify the states or region where the suspects were active, again saying this may jeopardise investigations.

“Gambling syndicates are found all across the country,” he volunteered.

Groups previously alleged of nine kingpins in the country whose gambling syndicates were purportedly generating RM5 billion in monthly revenues.

They also alleged that the syndicates have infiltrated law-enforcement agencies in the country.
