KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 ― A Wanita Umno delegate today described the 14th General Election (GE14) as the “father of elections” which will determine the future of a race and if taken lightly, will signal the end of Malay politics.
As such, Ledang Wanita Umno head Khairin Nisa' Ismail, said the “win” mentality must be implanted in the minds of all members of the movement and the benefits brought about by Umno entrenched in the people.
The election, she said, could cost the future of the Umno-led government and the race.
“The time is getting closer to GE14, avoid break-ups as we can prevent political doom, which if it happens, will mean the Malays will be colonised and not able to recover,” she said when proposing the motion on politics at the 2016 Wanita Umno General Assembly here today.
Meanwhile, Silam Wanita Umno division head Mizma Appehdullah called on the Umno leadership to translate the words “women the backbone of the party” into action and reality.
“The days of being lulled by politics are over, women want to see how far priority is given to them,” she said, while supporting the keynote address here today.
She added that with the coming GE14, Wanita Umno wanted to more women participation as candidates increased to 30 per cent.
“It is not about the number of women voters, but we are convinced women are also qualified (as candidates),” she said. ― Bernama
