Responding to Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s figurative remarks earlier this week, Dr Mahathir merely said he is not so liberal to do so.

“I haven’t come to that stage of liberalism yet. One can be liberal but even liberalism has its limits.

“I mean if you all turn up naked, I would object,” he told reporters after making a historic appearance at the DAP conference here.

Lim, who was also present, smiled at the question on Shahrizat’s remarks.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir also said he is assured that the DAP is sticking to the Malaysian value system and will not be as liberal as the US.

“We are not going to have Guan Eng marrying another man, and I am not going to marry another man,” he said.

On Wednesday, Shahrizat had at the Wanita Umno assembly said the “most saddening” thing for her was to see Umno’s former party leader working with the federal opposition.

“The day I saw them ‘kissing’ with Lim Kit Siang is the darkest day in my life; I was ashamed, a leader whom we loved and celebrated for 22 years through all ups and downs,” she said, alluding to Dr Mahathir in her figurative remark.

Dr Mahathir, who left Umno last year, is now chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) that is opposed to the current ruling coalition.
