KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today gave the assurance that jailed PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would be given the best treatment for his ailment.
He said the Health Ministry had taken measures requested by Anwar and his family in the matter. Anwar is scheduled to undergo surgery on his shoulder on Sunday.
“I wish to state that the best treatment by the appropriate medical specialists and post-surgical or post-operative care will be given to him, and we pray that he will recover fast following the treatment.
“We hope that the Health Ministry medical officers will be able to provide the best possible treatment and post-surgical care,” he said when winding up the debate at the policy stage for the Home Ministry on the Supply Bill 2018 in the Dewan Rakyat.
Ahmad Zahid’s response was welcomed by Anwar’s daughter Nurul Izzah (PKR-Lembah Pantai) who intervened to express her thanks.
She also asked for a guarantee of the safety of prisoners following a road accident that Anwar was involved in when being transported to the Sungai Buloh Prison on September 22 after treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
On the accident involving Anwar, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the home minister, said an investigation was ongoing and action would be taken against those responsible if it was found that the accident was intentional.
When replying to a supplementary question, from Mahfuz Omar (PAS-Pokok Sena), on the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police, Ahmad Zahid said the appointment of Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun as the new IGP was in accordance with procedure and received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. – Bernama
