Mah said he had told former Penang chief minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon from Gerakan that history would judge him as a “great leader” of the state.

“Today, Lim Guan Eng is so comfortable – due to Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu and Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon’s efforts that built up the base for them,” Mah said in a speech at Gerakan’s 44th National Delegates Conference here today, referring to the late Gerakan founding president Dr Lim, who had served as Penang’s second chief minister for over two decades.

“I’ve told Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon – you feel bad, social media ‘hentam’ (slam) you, although you work 25 years for Penang. But I guarantee you, Koh Tsu Koon, in 20 years’ time, history will judge you as a great leader for Penang. But you got to wait 20 years lah,” he added.

BN lost Penang, then under Koh’s leadership, in the 2008 general election and failed to regain it in Election 2013, with Lim Guan Eng from the DAP administering the state since.

Penang had come under Gerakan’s rule starting in Election 1969.
