LENGGONG, Nov 19 — The body of one of two fishermen who went missing after their boat capsized in Lake Raban near Kampung Kelantan, here, was found this morning.
Gerik district police chief Supt Ismail Che Isa, in a statement tonight, said the body of Amirul Asyraf Abdullah, 24, were found about five metres from the location of the capsized boat at 10.10am, two hours after the search and rescue team (SAR) began operations.
He said that the body was taken to the Gerik Hospital for post-mortem and SAR operations were still ongoing to locate another victim, Muhammad Faliq Fadzil, 26.
The boat owner had lodged a police report at Lenggong district police station at 8.36 pm yesterday after villagers found the capsized boat but failed to locate the missing fishermen.
Meanwhile in Kota Baru, a personnel from the General Operations Force (PGA) was found drowned after going out searching for clams with his two friends at Sungai Pengkalan Datu, Kampung Pulau Belacan, Pengkalan Chepa, here today.
Pengkalan Chepa Fire and Rescue Department chief, Senior Assistant Superintendent Mohd Fakri Mazlan said the body of Mohd Haniff Hassan, 34, was found at 5.37pm, about five metres from the location where he was reportedly drowned.
“Before the incident, the victim with his friends were searching for clams on foot in the river at 2.30 pm before the high tide came in and the water level has risen to 0.5 metres.
“Realising the danger, the victim tried to swim to safety but drowned. The victim’s body was found an hour after the search operation was initiated and later taken to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here for post-mortem before being claimed by the family for burial,” he said.
In Kuala Terengganu, three fishermen found a headless body in the waters off Kapas Island here today.
Director of Terengganu Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Maritime Capt Rahim Ramli in a statement today said that the body, believed to be a male, decomposed, without clothes and had no identification, was found at 10.8 nautical miles from Kapas Island.
The body was handed over to the Marang District Police for further investigation. — Bernama
