KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 ― Umno women entrepreneurs will receive financial support worth RM35 million from MARA, the minister in charge of the Bumiputera development agency announced today.
“We are doing this because we believe in Umno women as the backbone of the party,” Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri said.
He made the announcement after the wing's delegates repeatedly pressed for government support of its women entrepreneurs at its annual general assembly held at the Putra World Trade Centre here.
The sum will be split into two parts: RM30 million will go directly to support businesses while RM5 million will be spent on facilitating courses and workshops to boost skills.
During the assembly Umno's women wing moved a motion demanding Putrajaya to allocate 30 per cent of government contracts and posts for their members.
The motion was passed unanimously.
