PARIS, Sept 22 — The legendary Parisian restaurant Taillevent will open its doors on Saturday, September 24, in celebration of the Fête de la Gastronomie, France’s annual food festival. Lovers of fine dining will be able to attend workshops on flambé techniques, knife skills, and French patisserie.

It’s rare for an upmarket restaurant to organise workshops that reveal the secrets of haute cuisine. But that’s what top restaurant Taillevent has done to celebrate France’s culinary heritage for the country’s sixth annual Fête de la Gastronomie (Gastronomy Day) on September 24. It will hold a number of workshops centred on the famous traditions that make its service a ceremony.

The restaurant has a tradition of putting the final flourishes to dishes in front of its customers. For example, Grand Marnier and cognac are poured onto crêpes and set alight in the pan to flambé them. The two-Michelin-starred restaurant, in partnership with a Parisian cooking school, will conduct a workshop to explain the flambé techniques it uses every day.

A one-off opportunity

A short lesson in knife skills will also be on offer. And those with a sweet tooth may be interested in learning how to make a praline-flavoured crunchy sensation using Gavottes crispy crepes.

The workshops will run from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, every 30 minutes. Entry will be free.

You will also be able to pop into the restaurant’s Lammenais room where a table will be decorated with top-notch French-made tableware — Christofle cutlery, Bernardaud porcelain, Saint-Louis crystal glasses and a tablecloth designed exclusively for the occasion by Le Jacquard Français. — AFP-Relaxnews
