Bugatti Type 35 from 1925. - AFP pic Bugatti Type 35 from 1925. - AFP pic LONDON, Nov 7 — The 11th edition of the “Automobiles sur les Champs” auction, held Sunday, November 5, 2017, in Paris by Artcurial Motorcars, totaled almost €6 million (RM29.49 million).

As expected, it is a 1925 Bugatti Type 35 that tops the list of this edition’s sales, fetching €1,438,900, including fees.

As well as this exceptional race car, the auction saw several other models sell for sums close to their estimated prices, such as a magnificent Bentley Continental R with bodywork by H. J. Mulliner, which sold for €814,100.

Some surprises of the sale were the very old models, which sailed past their estimated prices. For example, a Peugeot 3.3/4 HP “vis-à-vis” from 1896 sold for €208,600, after being estimated at €60,000 to €80,000.

Similarly, a Peugeot Lion 8 HP Type VC Phaéton from 1908, which sold for €46,500 after being estimated at €20,000 to €30,000.

Top 10 sales in order of price from the “Automobiles sur les Champs XI” auction:

2. Bentley Continental R by H. J. Mulliner: €814,100

3. Lamborghini Countach 5000 S from 1985: €250,300

4. Lancia Flaminia Zagato Super Sport from 1965: €220,500

5. Peugeot vis-à-vis 3.3/4 HP from 1896: €208,600

6. Citroën DS 21 Cabriolet from 1968: €208,600

7. Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 from 1984: €184,800

8. Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 from 1968: €180,000

9. Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 L from 1994: €176,300

10. Mercedes-Benz 220 S Cabriolet from 1957: €145,400

In total, 75 per cent of lots that went under the hammer (77 cars and two motorcycles) were sold at the auction. — AFP-Relaxnews
